Privacy Policy
Introduction
Welcome to WiFiNYC.app. We operate this standalone one-page web application as an independent public utility directory tracking free Wi-Fi kiosks and 5G smart poles across New York City (NYC). Your privacy is critically important to us. This Privacy Policy outlines the types of information we collect, how it is processed, and the measures we take to protect your digital footprint when you use our interactive locator tool.
Information Collected Natively via API
Our application runs entirely natively by requesting real-time public asset distribution nodes directly from the official NYC Open Data catalog database. We do not require users to create an account, sign in, or provide personal identity details like names, phone numbers, or email addresses to use our map.
Geographical Location Data
To show you the nearest Wi-Fi kiosks, our map application requests access to your device's real-time GPS coordinates. This location polling happens strictly client-side on your individual device and is never stored on our servers.
Log Files
Like most standard web servers, we utilize automated log files. This includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, platform type, and date/time stamps for analytics traffic control.
Google AdSense and DoubleClick DART Cookies
We use third-party advertising companies, specifically Google AdSense, to serve ads when you visit our website based on a Pay-Per-Impression (CPM) monetization model.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to our users based on their visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- Users may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings or by blocking tracking parameters directly through their individual mobile browser security panels.
Progressive Web App (PWA) and Local Storage
Our application utilizes Progressive Web App technology to allow mobile users to save a permanent shortcut directly to their homescreen via the "Add to Phone" functionality.
Service Workers (sw.js)
We utilize a localized script to cache the map framework layout and core infrastructure text. This allows the directory app to open instantly offline, even inside NYC subway tunnels when there is zero active internet connection.
Local Storage
If you utilize the "Favourite" button to bookmark specific high-traffic kiosk locations, this choice is saved directly inside your browser’s local storage cache and is never transmitted to us or any third parties.
CCPA and GDPR Data Protection
Although our target audience consists primarily of NYC residents and tourists, we respect data privacy laws globally. Residents of California (CCPA) and visitors from the European Economic Area (GDPR) have the right to manage or block cookie tracking directly through their browser preferences at any time.
